Mae Yen Waterfall is one of the most famous natural attractions in Pai District, Mae Hong Son Province. It is especially suitable for adventurous travelers and nature lovers, as reaching the waterfall requires a relatively long trekking journey. However, the breathtaking beauty at the destination makes the effort truly worthwhile.

 

The waterfall is located in Mae Na Toeng Subdistrict, Pai District, and is hidden deep within a lush and well-preserved forest. The journey to Mae Yen Waterfall is considered an experience in itself, as visitors must hike approximately 6–7 kilometers from the starting point. The trail passes through rice fields, streams, and dense forest areas, offering an immersive nature experience.

 

Along the trail, visitors will encounter small streams that must be crossed multiple times, shaded pathways surrounded by tall trees, and scenic mountain views. Some parts of the trail can be slippery or steep, especially during the rainy season, so proper footwear and caution are essential.

 

Upon arrival, visitors will be rewarded with a large multi-tiered waterfall cascading down rocky cliffs. The area is peaceful, pristine, and largely untouched by commercial development, making it one of the most authentic natural destinations in Pai.

 

At the base of the waterfall, there is a natural pool where visitors can swim during periods of moderate water flow. However, caution is advised as water levels and currents can vary depending on weather conditions.

 

Mae Yen Waterfall is ideal for those who want to escape the crowds and experience nature in its purest form. The trekking journey becomes part of the attraction itself, offering both challenge and reward in equal measure.

 

Getting There From Pai town, take Highway 1095 (Pai–Mae Hong Son Road) for about 4–5 kilometers. There is a trailhead where visitors can park their vehicles before beginning the trek. The hike to the waterfall is approximately 6–7 kilometers and takes around 2–3 hours depending on pace and fitness level.
