Wat Kam Ko is one of Mae Hong Son’s old and culturally meaningful temples. Located opposite Wat Phra Non in Chong Kham, the temple is best known for its graceful Shan architecture and its beautifully roofed covered walkway leading from the entrance arch to the main pavilion. Its name comes from the Tai language, in which “Kam Ko” means “bunnak flower,” giving the temple a distinctly local identity from the very beginning.

 

The temple was built in 1890 and is regarded as one of the historic temples closely connected to the old religious landscape of Mae Hong Son. Although it is quieter and less visually dominant than some of the city’s better-known temples, that is part of its appeal. Since it stands opposite Wat Phra Non and near the road to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, travelers can conveniently combine these temples in one route.
