Ban Don Luang Handicraft Village is one of Lamphun Province’s most important handwoven cotton and Tai Yong cultural destinations. Located in Ban Don Luang, Moo 7, Mae Raeng Subdistrict, Pa Sang District, the village is about 7 km from Pa Sang town and about 23 km from Lamphun city.

The village has a long history connected with the Tai Yong people. The community was established in 1809, originally known as Ban Ko Thon. In the past, the area was also a trading place for cattle and buffaloes. During the reign of King Kawila, people from Mueang Yong were brought to settle in Lamphun as part of the effort to restore the city after years of conflict with Burma. Because the community grew into a large settlement on raised ground, it later became known as Ban Don Luang.

Today, Ban Don Luang is a well-known handicraft village where visitors can find handwoven cotton, four-harness woven textiles, cotton product processing, tailoring, longan farming products, batik, tie-dye fabrics, and other local crafts. Its most famous product is handwoven cotton, a craft passed down through generations and recognized by both Thai and international visitors.

Walking through the village offers a meaningful cultural experience. Visitors can see how local artisans continue to preserve traditional weaving skills while adapting designs for modern use. Products include handwoven cloth, clothing, household textiles, decorative items, and practical cotton products suitable as souvenirs or gifts.

One of the village’s major annual events is the “Tang Si Uat Lai Don Luang Cotton Festival,” which has been held every April since 2003. The event showcases handwoven cotton, local crafts, community products, and the cultural identity of the Tai Yong people.

Getting There From Lamphun city, take Highway 106 toward Pa Sang District, then continue to Mae Raeng Subdistrict and Ban Don Luang. The village is about 7 km from Pa Sang town and about 23 km from Lamphun city. Private vehicles are recommended.
