Wat Phra That Ha Duang, also known as Wiang Chedi Ha Lang, is an important historical temple in Li District, Lamphun Province. Located about 2 km south of Li town along Highway 106, the temple is home to a unique group of five chedis and is believed to stand on the site of an ancient city.

The area shows clear evidence of an old settlement, including remnants of city walls and moats. These archaeological traces support the idea that the site once served as a historical center of the old Li town.

According to local legend, Queen Chamadevi of Hariphunchai learned that five glowing orbs frequently appeared in the area. She traveled to witness the phenomenon herself and saw the lights hovering above five mounds of earth. The mounds were believed to be associated with sacred water that flowed from the Buddha’s fingers after washing his hands.

Moved by faith, the queen ordered the construction of five chedis to cover each mound, forming the five chedis that exist today. This legend forms the spiritual foundation of the temple’s significance.

The five chedis are arranged in a row, creating a distinctive architectural feature rarely seen in other temples in northern Thailand. Their simple yet symbolic design reflects the strong religious beliefs of the local community.

Getting There is easy. From Li town, travel south along Highway 106 for about 2 km, then turn into the temple road for another 500 meters. The route is accessible by car and can be combined with visits to nearby attractions.
