Wat San Sai is located at 101, Village No. 5, Ban Thi Subdistrict, Ban Thi District, Lamphun Province. It was established around 1822 (BE 2365) and occupies an area of 8 rai, 1 ngan, and 7 square wah. The land is registered under Nor Sor 3, document number 1190. It officially became a temple in 1822 (BE 2365) and was granted the Royal Decree of Ecclesiastical Land (Wisungkhamsima) on December 30, 1975 (BE 2518).
The administration and governance of the temple have been overseen by a series of abbots as follows: Phra Athikan Tepin, Phra Thammasena, Phra Khamchan Dhammakitti, Phra Utta Indachak, Phra Som, Phra Chanthip Chantima, Phra Kaew, Phra Than Kanto, Phra Duangdee Nanto, Phra Oonruan Dhammasaro, Phra Athikan Singkham Lakkavaro, Phra Athikan Duangchan Chantawongso, and Phra Khru Khantayabhiyut (Khantitharo), who has been serving since 1986 (BE 2529) to the present.
