Wat Ban Thi Luang Located at 148, Moo 14, Ban Thi Subdistrict, Ban Thi District, Lamphun Province, adjacent to the Mae Thi River, which originates from the Khun Mae Thi mountain range. According to the History of Temples Across the Kingdom, Volume 9, the temple was established in 1732 (B.E. 2275) and received royal recognition of its boundary (Wisungkhamsima) in 1995 (B.E. 2538). It was designated as a model temple in 1996 (B.E. 2539). The abbot of Wat Ban Thi Luang is Phra Kru Pitak Thawarakit (Sujitto).
There are no records indicating who founded the temple. However, according to local elders, Wat Ban Thi Luang was the first temple established in Ban Thi Subdistrict. In earlier times, villagers would gather at this temple for religious ceremonies. Over time, other temples were constructed to make it more convenient for people to travel.
