Chakrapong Reservoir is an earthen dam located at the foothills of Khao Ito in Prachinburi. The atmosphere is peaceful, suitable for picnics, camping, cycling, and enjoying the scenic dam ridge. Along the uphill road to the viewpoint, visitors encounter the highlight known as the Gravity Hill around kilometer 7–8, where cars appear to roll uphill due to an optical illusion. The reservoir was created to store water from surrounding streams of Khao Ito. Locals use it for walking, jogging, cycling, and kayaking on certain days. The long dam ridge allows wide views of the water meeting the forest edge, often with breezes across the surface. The most memorable spot is the Gravity Hill. This 150-meter stretch, around kilometer 7–8, appears to slope upward though it is actually downhill. Cyclists are advised to carry lights and water, as some sections are steep and narrow.

 

Surrounding the reservoir are grassy areas for camping and resting by the water. The zone is part of the “Khao Ito Forest in the City” project, which posts periodic updates about weather and safety. During the rainy season, surfaces may be slippery and water levels rise quickly. Travel From Prachinburi city, head to Nern Hom Intersection, then turn right onto Highway 33. Continue about 3 kilometers to the sign at kilometer markers 160–161 and turn left. Drive another 2 kilometers to the reservoir area. From there, a single road continues up to the scenic viewpoint, totaling about 11 kilometers from the entrance.

 

The dry season through early rains offers the clearest skies, while the rainy season creates dramatic clouds and misty hillsides. Regardless of season, it’s wise to check local announcements on water levels and conditions.
