PTT Green in The City (Metro Forest) is one of Bangkok’s green spaces that turns the idea of an “urban forest” from a symbolic concept into a place you can truly walk into and experience. Located on Sukhaphiban 2 Road in the Prawet area, the center was developed by PTT as a learning hub for sustainable ecological forest planting, while also opening its doors for city residents to reconnect with nature in a tangible way.

Although the PTT Green in The City (Metro Forest) covers just over 1 rai, its underlying concept is designed to “function like a much larger forest.” From soil and water systems to plant species and building placement, every element is planned to support genuine ecological restoration rather than serving as a purely decorative green space.

What truly distinguishes this place from an ordinary public park is its clearly defined land-use structure. The area is divided into 75% forest, 15% functional building space, and 10% water. This proportion reflects the philosophy of letting the forest take center stage, with buildings acting only as supporting elements. As a result, ecological disturbance is minimized and the area is able to recover and sustain itself over the long term.

Architecturally, the buildings within the PTT Green in The City (Metro Forest) are designed to blend seamlessly with their surroundings. In form, materials, and placement, the structures respect the natural context and are not treated as intrusions, but as part of the forest itself. This approach has led the center to be recognized as a model of green building innovation within a major city.

Another major highlight is the project’s certification under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The PTT Green in The City (Metro Forest) achieved the Platinum level, the highest possible rating, reflecting outstanding performance in energy efficiency, resource management, and environmental impact on an international scale.

The heart of the entire site is its “ecological forest,” created according to the natural forest restoration principles of Professor Dr. Akira Miyawaki. This approach emphasizes planting native species originally found in the area, allowing the forest to regenerate naturally over time. Within the Urban Forest Learning Center, there are more than 200 plant species, contributing to rich biodiversity and attracting living organisms back into the urban ecosystem.

The forest area is also designed to effectively absorb rainfall. Water is filtered into the soil and retained within designated water zones, helping to reduce surface flooding and create a balanced ecosystem. This supports a complete ecological cycle, from plants and small animals to insects and birds that are gradually returning to the area.

For visitors, the experience at the PTT Green in The City (Metro Forest) goes beyond a casual walk. It is an opportunity to learn through observation and to coexist with a living forest. The nature study trails reveal subtle changes in light, sound, and humidity, offering a distinctly different experience from that of landscaped ornamental parks.

Getting There The center can be reached by both private vehicles and public transportation. It is located on Sukhaphiban 2 Road in Dokmai Subdistrict, Prawet District. Pinning “Urban Forest Learning Center” in a map application is recommended for convenience. Drivers can approach via Srinakarin or On Nut roads, while public transport users can take buses running along Sukhaphiban 2 Road and then connect to the site.
