The 9th Infantry Division, Surasee Camp, Kanchanaburi Province, is a unit of the Royal Thai Army that has opened parts of its military compound to the public as a learning-oriented and recreational tourist destination. This initiative follows the concept of “The Military and Society,” aiming to foster understanding, closeness, and positive relationships between the armed forces and the general public.

 

Surasee Camp is located in Mueang Kanchanaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province, an area with long-standing significance in terms of history, military affairs, and tourism. Opening the camp for tourism allows visitors to gain insight into the military’s multifaceted role, including national defense, social development, and experiential activity-based learning.

 

Within Surasee Camp are several historically significant landmarks, including the Monument of Khun Rattanawut, leader of the Sword-Charging Troops during the Nine Armies War, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. These sites commemorate the sacrifices of Thai soldiers in different historical contexts. In addition, the camp features a small zoo and a variety of adventure activities open to the public.

 

Key activities within the camp include rock climbing, tower jumping, a paintball shooting arena, and mountain biking trails. These activities are designed to accommodate beginners, families, and adventure enthusiasts alike, with close supervision and safety oversight provided by trained personnel.

 

Visitors to Surasee Camp are advised to dress modestly, comply with military regulations, and show respect for government property to ensure a smooth and appropriate visiting experience.
