The Ban Don Ta Phet archaeological site is classified as a late Iron Age site. British archaeologists who participated in the excavations estimated the age of the site to be approximately 2,300–2,400 years old. This period corresponds to a time when societies in Southeast Asia were becoming increasingly complex, with the use of iron, the production of tools and weapons, and expanding trade and cultural exchange both within and beyond the region.

 

Ban Don Ta Phet Museum is designed as a small, single-story building constructed directly over the original excavation pit at the center of the structure. Visitors can walk around the excavation area from all four sides, allowing them to observe the archaeological context in its original setting. This display approach helps visitors better understand the relationship between artifacts and the location where they were discovered, rather than viewing objects in display cases alone.

However, many of the most significant artifacts are preserved in Bangkok under appropriate conservation conditions. As a result, the Ban Don Ta Phet Museum displays detailed photographs of these artifacts along with comprehensive explanations to help visitors understand their value and importance. Actual artifacts on display at the museum include iron spearheads, iron tool fragments, bronze bracelets and anklets, socketed iron axes, bronze bowls, pottery rings, whetstones, and cord-marked pottery sherds.

 

The museum’s exhibition design is simple yet academically comprehensive. All informational panels are presented in both Thai and English to accommodate Thai and international visitors.
