The area was officially designated as a wildlife sanctuary on May 28, 1998, to protect natural resources and wildlife in the region. The sanctuary’s elevation ranges from 100 to 500 meters above sea level, creating diverse terrain suitable for a variety of plant species and wildlife habitats.

The forest in Khao Noi–Khao Prado consists of dry evergreen forest, mixed deciduous forest, teak forest, and grasslands, providing rich biodiversity and a complete ecosystem. The area is home to many seasonal flowering plants, including the beautiful Siam Tulip (Dok Krajeaw) that blooms during the rainy season and various wild orchids with vibrant colors and unique fragrances. In addition to its impressive flora, the sanctuary has also been the site of discoveries of new species, such as the freshwater crab locally known as “Paeng” or the “Song Khwae Crab,” highlighting the area’s ecological richness.

For visitors and nature enthusiasts, Khao Noi–Khao Prado is an ideal destination for ecological study and nature-based excursions, especially between May and December, when weather conditions are favorable for trekking, exploring ecosystems, and observing local flora and fauna. Visitors can walk through the grasslands and forests, enjoying the seasonal blooms while experiencing the tranquility, shade, and pristine natural environment.

Beyond the sanctuary, Phitsanulok Province offers other attractions such as Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, which features scenic viewpoints and opportunities for photography, ancient temples, historical architecture, and insights into local life in the Song Khwae area. The city also has trendy cafes and traditional restaurants, especially around the Clock Tower area, where visitors can savor authentic Thai dishes and local desserts in unique and charming settings.
