Mae Kradangla Waterfall is one of the most ecologically intact natural waterfalls in Phetchaburi Province. It is located in Ban Lin Chang Village, Moo 3, Yang Nam Klat Nuea Subdistrict, Nong Ya Plong District, and falls under the responsibility of Kaeng Krachan National Park. This waterfall is not a commercialized tourist attraction with easy access; rather, it is a natural site that requires commitment and physical readiness, especially due to the approximately 4-kilometer uphill hike required to reach the waterfall.

The name “Kradangla” originates from the Kradangla plant, a fragrant medicinal herb that grows near the end of the stream in this area. When young, the trunk appears light green, similar to a young kapok tree. As it matures, the trunk turns white, resembling certain palm-family plants. The leaves are short, thick, smooth, and glossy. In the past, the bark was crushed and mixed with water as a natural perfume substitute. Although it is no longer commonly used, the plant’s presence has become an identity marker of the area and gave the waterfall its name.

Mae Kradangla Waterfall consists of three tiers cascading naturally over rock formations. Clear water flows through a shaded and pristine stream, surrounded by large trees and diverse forest vegetation. The beauty here is not defined by dramatic height, but by the balance between forest, water, and sunlight filtering through the canopy, occasionally illuminating fine water droplets.

One of the distinguishing highlights of Mae Kradangla Waterfall is the large number of butterflies, especially during the rainy season and late rainy season. The moist stream banks become gathering points for various butterfly species that absorb minerals from damp soil. This natural phenomenon leaves a strong impression on nature enthusiasts and photographers.

The journey from Nong Ya Plong District to the starting point of the trail is approximately 18 kilometers. From there, visitors must hike about 4 kilometers into the forest. The trail is covered with dense vegetation and crosses small streams along the way. The difficulty level ranges from moderate to fairly challenging, making it suitable for physically prepared hikers who are familiar with trekking conditions.

Getting There Travel to Nong Ya Plong District and continue toward Ban Lin Chang Village in Yang Nam Klat Nuea Subdistrict. The final stretch consists of local roads; vehicles should be in good condition and driven cautiously, especially during the rainy season. Upon reaching the trailhead, it is advisable to inform local authorities or relevant personnel before entering the hiking route for safety reasons.
