Huai Yang Reservoir is located in Moo 8, Ban Khok Krat, Thap Rat Subdistrict, Ta Phraya District, Sa Kaeo Province. It is an important water source for the local community, both for agriculture and daily use, and is also a popular relaxation spot for local residents and travelers passing along the Ta Phraya–Aranyaprathet route. Surrounded by low mountains, green spaces, and an expansive water surface, the area offers a calm and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for sitting and relaxing, strolling to enjoy the views, or dining with family at the restaurants along the reservoir shore.

The area around Huai Yang Reservoir still retains a rural, natural character. Visitors will immediately feel the simplicity of village life in Ban Khok Krat, the unhurried lifestyle, and the cool breeze that blows across the crest of the reservoir almost all day. The water surface reflects the low hills in every direction, giving the landscape a distinct charm that feels different from the more famous tourist attractions in Sa Kaeo, which tend to be livelier and more crowded.

Many visitors like to stop at the reservoir specifically to eat by the water, as there are local restaurants set near the crest of the dam, allowing diners to enjoy their meal with wide-open views of the reservoir. Most menus are classic Isan dishes such as som tam (papaya salad), larb, tom saep, grilled chicken, as well as simple made-to-order dishes that are easy to eat and reasonably priced. The busiest times for the restaurants are at midday and in the late afternoon, when the breeze is cooler and the sunlight softer, making the lakeside atmosphere especially pleasant for relaxing.

The scenery at Huai Yang Reservoir is particularly beautiful in the late afternoon towards sunset, when golden light stretches across the surface of the water and creates warm, lively photo opportunities. Landscape photography enthusiasts often choose to come after 4:00 p.m., when the sky starts to change color and the wind becomes stronger, making the atmosphere even more relaxing.

The reservoir area has pavilions for sitting, shaded rest spots under trees, and open spaces for light activities such as picnicking or walking. Local residents actively help maintain the cleanliness of the reservoir and its surroundings, keeping the area green, natural, and attractive. It is well suited for those who want to escape the busyness of the city and find a quiet corner to rest their mind during a journey.

Huai Yang Reservoir is under the supervision of the Sa Kaeo Irrigation Project, located at 222, Moo 11, Watthana Nakhon Subdistrict, Watthana Nakhon District, Sa Kaeo Province. The agency manages water distribution, maintains the condition of the reservoir, and oversees related structures so that the water system in Thap Rat and nearby subdistricts remains sufficient to support agriculture throughout the year.

Getting There is convenient. Start from Sa Kaeo city and take Highway No. 33 towards Aranyaprathet District. Then turn left towards Ta Phraya District and continue for about 37 kilometers until you reach the Border Patrol Police checkpoint at Ban Kut Toei. Turn left at this point and drive straight for around 10 kilometers, then turn left again for the final approach to the reservoir, about 3 kilometers. Most of the route is paved road, while the last stretch leading to the reservoir is a community road that can be accessed by a regular sedan.

Travelers who want to continue their trip after visiting Huai Yang Reservoir can head to other attractions in Ta Phraya District, such as Wat Ta Phraya, the view at Chong Ta Kiew, and the Ban Ta Phraya permanent border crossing, where visitors can experience the atmosphere of the Thai–Cambodian border up close. There are also community agricultural projects and other reservoirs of interest along the same route, making it easy to plan either a half-day or full-day trip.

With its quiet, simple, and uncrowded setting, Huai Yang Reservoir has become a relaxation spot suitable for families, couples, road trippers looking for a break along the way, and anyone who wants to experience the natural side of Ta Phraya District without having to travel deep into the border area. Its modest, down-to-earth charm makes many visitors feel relaxed and impressed from their very first visit.
