Attractions in Thailand

Open Days: Generally open daily (subject to weather conditions and official announcements from Doi Suthep–Pui National Park, especially during the rainy season)
Opening Hours: Generally 08:00 – 16:30 (visiting in the morning or late morning is recommended to allow enough time to return before evening)

Tad Mok Waterfall is a medium-sized waterfall hidden within lush deciduous forest inside Doi Suthep–Pui National Park. It also serves as one of the headwaters of the Mae Ram Stream, an important water source for the Mae Rim area. The charm of this waterfall lies not in its sheer grandeur, but in the sight of water plunging from a cliff approximately 20 meters high, dispersing into fine white mist in midair like a delicate curtain of fog—an image that perfectly explains the name “Tad Mok.”

The surrounding environment remains largely natural and well preserved. Mixed deciduous and dry evergreen forest provides continuous shade along the approach, making the area noticeably cooler than the surrounding lowlands even during the hot season. The sound of falling water blending with forest ambience and gentle mountain breezes creates a calm, unhurried atmosphere, ideal for quiet relaxation and a true escape from Chiang Mai city.

The character of Tad Mok Waterfall changes clearly with the seasons. During the rainy season through early winter, the water volume increases significantly, producing the signature misty spray and vibrant green forest scenery. In the dry season, the flow becomes gentler, sometimes reduced to thin streams, yet the peaceful atmosphere remains appealing for leisurely walks, photography, and immersive nature listening.

Although Tad Mok Waterfall does not feature multiple tiers to climb like some other waterfalls in Chiang Mai, its main advantage is accessibility. The walking distance from the parking area to the waterfall is only about 100 meters, making it suitable for visitors of all ages, including those with limited time who still want to experience a genuine forest waterfall.

From a responsible tourism perspective, Tad Mok Waterfall lies within a sensitive headwater ecosystem. Visitors are advised to avoid using soap or any chemical products in the water, take all trash back with them, and be cautious on slippery rocks—especially after rainfall—to protect both personal safety and the integrity of the natural environment.

Getting There From Chiang Mai city, take Highway 107 (Chiang Mai–Fang) toward Mae Rim District. At the Mae Rim intersection, turn left onto Highway 1096 (Mae Rim–Samoeng Road). After approximately 5 kilometers, you will see a right-hand turn near the Mae Rim Snake Farm. Continue along the paved road for about 9 kilometers to reach the parking area at the Tad Mok Waterfall ranger unit, then walk approximately 100 meters to the waterfall.
