Komol Ancient Fabric MuseumAttractions in Phrae Phrae Province. Phrae is renowned not only for its natural beauty and Lanna architecture but also for being home to a significant cultural treasure—the Komol Ancient Fabric Museum. This museum serves as a repository of traditional weaving knowledge and cultural heritage, making it an invaluable resource for learning and preservation.

The Komol Ancient Fabric Museum was established by Mr. Komol Panichpan, whose passion for ancient textiles and traditional Thai lifestyles inspired him to gather and share this cultural legacy with future generations. Initially created as a Center for Indigenous Technology, it evolved into a museum in 1992 and was officially inaugurated on August 12th to commemorate the 60th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.

Located in Huai O Subdistrict, Long District, Phrae Province, the museum features exhibits of various types of ancient textiles, particularly antique pha sin (traditional tube skirts) known for their intricate patterns and weaving techniques. Additionally, the museum displays ancient artifacts and weaving tools that reflect the traditional lifestyle and wisdom of Thai people in the past.

The fabrics on display are more than just garments; they are historical records that embody regional identities. Each pattern and weaving technique highlights the creativity and connection to the environment and way of life during different periods.

A visit to this museum offers more than just a chance to view exhibits; it is an opportunity to learn and cultivate an appreciation for the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

How to Get There The museum is located approximately 40 kilometers from Phrae City. It is easily accessible by private car or public transport. The journey to the museum takes visitors through the scenic landscapes of Long District, adding to the overall enjoyment of the trip.

The Komol Ancient Fabric Museum beautifully combines cultural preservation with public education. For those visiting Phrae, this museum is a must-see destination perfect for those passionate about Thai art and culture or anyone seeking to delve deeply into the beauty of local wisdom.
