The beach is characterized by naturally dark gray sand. The seabed can be slippery, so swimming isn’t popular here. That trade-off buys you calm: fewer crowds and a setting made for listening to waves, reading, or picnicking under shade trees. Toward evening the sky warms over the Prasae River mouth, delivering understated but beautiful sunsets.

 

The area sits near Wat Laem Son and across the river from the HTMS Prasae Memorial. Around you is small-scale coastal fishing—boats moor with the tide; locals mend nets, work on wooden hulls, and sell fresh seafood at friendly prices. The beach’s charm is the “real life” of the shore more than polished amenities.

 

Getting There From Rayong city, take Highway 3145 past Ban Phe and Laem Mae Phim, then continue into Pak Nam Prasae Subdistrict. Total distance is about 60 km, roughly 1.5 hours by car. From Bangkok, take Sukhumvit Road (No. 3) into Klaeng District, then turn toward Ban Laem Son. Roads are smooth and suitable for private cars. Without a car, take a Bangkok–Klaeng van and transfer to local songthaews bound for Ban Laem Son.

 

Nearby picks include Laem Mae Phim Beach (about 3 km)—a more developed strip with many eateries and stays; the HTMS Prasae Memorial (about 5 km) for photos and local history; Pak Nam Prasae community (about 6 km) for riverside markets and seafood; and Wat Laem Son (about 1 km), the local spiritual hub.

 

Facilities around the beach are basic but sufficient: parking areas, shaded pavilions, public restrooms near Wat Laem Son, and small community shops selling drinks, snacks, and simple bites. For a long sit, bring a mat or camp chair—and please pack your trash out to keep the shore clean.

 

Popular restaurants nearby include Krua Paknam Rayong Seafood (around 5 km) with boat-fresh fish, prawns, and squid, plus various local joints across Pak Nam Prasae to sample as you like. For stays, base yourself around Laem Mae Phim or Pak Nam Prasae—quiet, convenient, and an easy hop to Laem Son Beach.

 

The best time to visit is November–April when skies are clear and waves are mild. From May–October (rainy season), check forecasts and avoid periods of heavy rain or rough seas.
