Laem Charoen Beach is one of the closest beaches to downtown Rayong, located about 5 kilometers south of the city at the mouth of the Rayong River. It offers a peaceful seaside vibe shaped by a long-standing fishing community. While not ideal for swimming, it’s perfect for slow walks, sea breeze, and fresh seafood with views of fishing boats along the shore.

 

The name “Laem Charoen” (“prosperous cape”) reflects both the landform extending into the sea and the prosperity of the historic fishing village here. Families have engaged in coastal fishing and fish-sauce making for generations. Even as Rayong grows, the area keeps its old-world character—the scent of the sea and fish sauce in the air, and boats returning at dusk.

 

A long breakwater protects the shore and doubles as a popular shore-fishing spot. Late afternoons bring golden light and gentle winds, with people strolling, taking photos, or watching the boats return home.

 

After Songkran each year, locals create sand pagodas along the beach in a colorful contest that reflects Buddhist faith and community spirit—a beloved annual scene.

 

Daily life still revolves around the sea: fishermen head out before dawn, then sort and sell their fresh catch or process it into dried seafood and fish sauce. Many well-known Rayong fish-sauce brands have roots in this area.

 

Seafood restaurants line the shore and serve all day: steamed blue crab, grilled shrimp, deep-fried seabass with fish sauce, and grilled squid eggs are favorites. At night, the horizon twinkles with fishing lights.

 

The Rayong Municipality maintains walkways, seawalls, seating, and small recreation areas. Cleanliness is well kept, making mornings great for exercise and evenings for sunset views.

 

Getting There – From downtown Rayong, follow Sukhumvit Road and turn into Thabunthuk Road toward Pak Nam Rayong (≈ 5 km). Songthaews (Rayong Market – Pak Nam route) also stop near the beach. Late afternoon is ideal for breezes and sunset.

 

Nearby places include Saeng Chan Beach to the west, Wat Pa Pradoo (~5 km), and Ban Phe Market (~10 km). You can easily combine Laem Charoen with nearby spots for a half- or full-day trip.

 

Local initiatives balance tourism and traditional livelihoods with beach cleanups and occasional releases of marine species, keeping both culture and nature thriving along Rayong’s coast.
