Pha Khong Cave in Nan Province is a medium-sized cave located near Ban Pa Rai, Phu Kha Subdistrict, Pua District, within the area of Doi Phu Kha National Park. The cave is known for its small entrance, connected chambers, beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, and a natural stream running through the cave. Because the cave floor is made of very slippery clay and water can rise inside during the rainy season, visitors should only enter with guidance from park staff.

 

The cave is located about 7 km from the Doi Phu Kha National Park headquarters. From the starting point near Ban Pa Rai, visitors must continue on foot for about 2 km through a natural forest trail. This route allows travelers to experience the forest atmosphere of Doi Phu Kha before reaching the cave entrance.

 

Although the entrance of Pha Khong Cave is small, the interior contains several cave chambers connected to one another. Each chamber features limestone formations in different shapes. Stalactites hang from the ceiling, stalagmites rise from the floor, and some formations follow the natural flow of water through the cave.

 

One of the most important safety concerns is the cave floor. The clay surface inside the cave can be extremely slippery, especially in damp areas where water flows through. Visitors should wear shoes with good grip and avoid entering the cave alone. Flashlights are necessary because the interior is dark and uneven.

 

Pha Khong Cave should not be visited during the rainy season. Since water flows through the cave, heavy rainfall can cause flooding inside, making the cave dangerous. Travelers should check weather conditions and contact Doi Phu Kha National Park staff before planning a visit.

 

Getting There requires traveling from Doi Phu Kha National Park headquarters for about 7 km to the starting point near Ban Pa Rai, then hiking for about 2 km to the cave. A local guide or park staff escort is recommended for safety.
