Wat Pa Khaw Wang (also known as Wang Wimok) was established in 1985 (B.E. 2528) as the 99th branch of Wat Nong Pah Pong. It was founded by Phra Ajahn Prasopchai Kantaseelo (Ajahn Piak), a devoted disciple of Phra Bodhinyanathera, or Luang Pu Chah Subhatto of Wat Nong Pah Pong in Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Initially, the temple was founded as a meditation retreat called “Wang Wimok Dhamma Practice Center” at the village cremation grounds of Ban Khaw Wang, in Du Tai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nan Province. The establishment received approval from Phra Thammanantasophon, the Ecclesiastical Provincial Governor of Nan.

At the time, Ban Khaw Wang did not have a temple of its own, and there was a desire to promote meditation practice throughout Nan Province. In 1992 (B.E. 2535), the center was officially recognized as a legal temple under the Sangha Act and was named “Wat Pa Khaw Wang.” The temple currently covers a total area of 176 rai of monastic land. At present, the abbot is Phra Khru Sunthornworanat (Phra Ajahn Nares Surnato).
