Wat Nikrotharam Pa Kha, Tha Wang Pha, Nan. Wat Nikrotharam, affiliated with the Mahanikaya sect, was established in 1780 (B.E. 2323) and is locally referred to as “Wat Ton Hang.” It is located on a plot bordered to the south by Soi Sri Pakha and private land, approximately 75 wa in length; to the north by Soi Mit Samakkhi and the Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital (Ror Por Sor Tor) of Pakha, also approximately 75 wa; to the east by the Yang Canal, about 60 wa; and to the west by private land, about 44 wa.
The temple received its Wisungkhamsima (ordination boundary) on January 20, 1941 (B.E. 2484), with the designated sacred area measuring 13 meters wide and 26 meters long. The total land area of the temple is 8 rai, 2 ngan, and 70 square wah. In 1970 (B.E. 2513), the Ministry of Education selected the temple as a model development temple. As of 2012 (B.E. 2555), Phra Khru Phromweerasonthorn serves as the abbot and is also the ecclesiastical district head of Tha Wang Pha District.
Wat Nikrotharam functions as the office of the district ecclesiastical authority and hosts various community facilities including a Buddhist scripture school, a demonstration center for the local fresh market, a village newspaper reading point, and a local Dhamma training unit. The temple’s ordination hall is a two-story structure. The upper floor enshrines a 300-year-old Buddha image carved from jackfruit wood and offers a scenic viewpoint. The principal Buddha image in the hall is a prominent and unique feature.
Every year, a traditional small boat race takes place in the Yang Canal in front of the temple. Additionally, the community organizes a “Kammueang” ceremony every three years, along with other village festivals and events held in the courtyard of the temple.
