Samut Songkhram Mangrove Forest Conservation Center is one of Thailand’s most outstanding eco-tourism destinations, located in Khlong Khon Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Songkhram District. This area is recognized as one of the largest man-made mangrove forests in the country, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience coastal ecosystems up close.

 

The forest was restored and developed through continuous mangrove reforestation efforts. Today, it serves as a vital ecological learning site, featuring various mangrove species such as Rhizophora (mangrove trees), Avicennia, and Sonneratia. These trees play a crucial role in preventing coastal erosion and supporting marine biodiversity.

 

One of the most unique activities here is the “mud boat ride,” where visitors travel through muddy tidal flats during low tide. This unusual landscape provides a fascinating contrast to traditional beaches and showcases the natural richness of the estuarine environment.

 

Another highlight is the “mud skiing for mangrove planting,” an eco-friendly activity where visitors use wooden boards to glide across the mud and plant young mangrove trees. This hands-on experience allows tourists to actively participate in environmental conservation.

 

In the evening, the mangrove forest transforms into a magical setting with thousands of fireflies illuminating the trees. The glowing lights scattered across the forest create a breathtaking natural spectacle, attracting both local and international visitors.

Getting There is convenient. From Bangkok, take Rama II Road (Highway 35) toward Samut Songkhram, then continue to Khlong Khon area. The site is accessible by private car or local tour services organized by the community.
