Wat Sriwanaram, formerly known as Wat Bang Sikhot Nai, is a community Buddhist temple in Bang Krachao Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District. The temple is especially known for its white Buddhagaya-style chedi, merit-and-fortune rituals, and its reputation as one of the most recognizable faith-oriented temples in the Bang Krachao area of Samut Sakhon.

The temple was officially established on October 5, 1965, after land was donated through the faith of Mr. Ho and Mrs. Pao Yasathorn. It received its royal ordination boundary on March 13, 1966, with a boundary measuring 20 by 29 meters. Although it is not one of the oldest temples in Samut Sakhon, it has grown quickly into a major local spiritual center through strong community support and continuous religious activity.

Wat Sriwanaram is distinctive because its identity combines ordinary temple life with ritual traditions that attract many devotees. During the period of Phra Ajarn Charoen Khantiko, the temple became widely known for astrological and ceremonial practices transmitted through Phra Khru Sakhon Thammawithan, also known as Luang Pho Tuan Tejadhammo of Wat Nuam Kanon. These practices included horoscope reading, ritual cleansing, life-extension rites, planetary merit rituals, Rahu worship, teacher-initiation ceremonies, and sacred forehead inscriptions.

This ritual reputation made Wat Sriwanaram especially popular among devotees seeking blessings, protection, improved fortune, and confidence in life decisions. As a result, the temple developed a strong reputation not only as a place of worship, but also as a temple associated with spiritual support and auspicious rites in modern Thai religious culture.

At the same time, the temple also serves an educational role. A Dhamma studies school was opened here in 1982, showing that the temple functions as more than a site of ritual practice. It also helps preserve Buddhist teaching and religious learning within the local community.

One of the temple’s most visible landmarks is the Buddhagaya Chedi, a bright white structure that stands out clearly even from a distance. This chedi has become one of the visual symbols of the temple and adds an architectural presence that makes Wat Sriwanaram memorable for both local worshippers and first-time visitors.

The temple complex includes a reinforced-concrete ordination hall built in 1966, a wooden sermon hall built in 1987, a wooden prayer hall built in 1984, six monks’ residences, a reinforced-concrete vihara built in 1982, a large multipurpose hall built in 1991, and a funeral pavilion. These buildings show that the temple was planned to support both monastic life and large-scale community activities.

The recorded line of abbots includes Phra Kai Thaniyo, Phra Winai Winayo, Phra Chuchat Thirapanyo, and Phra Baidika Charoen Khantiko. In more recent public references, the abbot is identified by the ecclesiastical title Phra Khru Sakhon Sirikhun, also referred to as Phra Ajarn Charoen. This is the name most consistently found in current monk administrative records and temple-related contact references.

Getting There The temple can be reached from Rama II Road by turning into the Bang Krachao area of Samut Sakhon and continuing along local roads toward the temple. A widely used navigation address is 74/2 Bang Krachao Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Samut Sakhon 74000. Private car access is the most convenient, and the route can easily be combined with nearby local temples and community attractions.

With local cafés, restaurants, and small hotels in the wider Bang Krachao and Mahachai zone, the temple can be included in either a short half-day trip or a longer day itinerary.
