Wat Mae Tam (Soem Sai) is located in Ban Mae Tam, Village No. 1, Soem Sai Subdistrict, Soem Ngam District, Lampang Province. It is affiliated with the Maha Nikaya monastic order. The temple occupies an area of 1 rai, 1 ngan, and 91 square wah. The northern boundary is approximately 215 meters adjacent to private land, the southern boundary is about 110 meters adjacent to the Mae Tam Special Arts and Crafts Center, the eastern boundary is about 215 meters adjacent to the public road connecting Lampang and Li District in Lamphun Province, and the western boundary is about 110 meters adjacent to a stream. The monastic structures include monks’ residences (kuti), a vihara (assembly hall), and an open pavilion (sala rai).
Wat Mae Tam was established in 1940 (B.E. 2483) and was originally named Wat Na Lam Doi Mo. In terms of administration and governance, the known abbots include Phra Khru Chaiyawong Saphatthana (1947–1963), Phra Kaeo Suwanno (1963–1967), Phra Dok Chantrasi (1967–1975), Phra Khammii Khantiko (1975–1981), and from 1981 to the present, Phra Tha Akkajanno and Phra Mongkhon. The current abbot is Phra Vinai.
