Wat Pong Phaeng is located in Ban Pong Phaeng, Village No. 11, Serm Khwa Subdistrict, Soem Ngam District, Lampang Province. It is affiliated with the Mahanikaya monastic sect. The temple grounds cover an area of 4 rai, 1 ngan, and 60 square wah, with land title deed Nor Sor 3 Kor No. 134.
The boundaries of the temple are as follows: to the north, it borders private rice fields; to the south, a public road; to the east, a public irrigation canal; and to the west, Lam Huai Sai stream. The temple also holds one plot of monastic land totaling 14 rai. The temple buildings include an ordination hall (ubosot), monastic living quarters (kuti), and a vihara. A principal sacred object is an ancient Buddha image.
Wat Pong Phaeng was established in 1776 (B.E. 2319) and was granted the royal boundary for ordination (wisungkhamsima) on November 8, 1971 (B.E. 2514), covering an area 20 meters wide and 30 meters long.
The temple has had ten abbots over time, including: Phra Wong, Phra Dam, Phra La, Phra Si Jai Kamwang, Phra Phat Tontecha, Phra Tip Sithi, Phra Tip Piengta, and Phra Yuang Uppakara (during 1974–1975), followed by Phra Nit Panyatharo in 1975. The current abbot is Phra Athikan Suphan.
