Wat Mongkhonrat, formerly known as “Wat Lam Sai,” is a local Buddhist temple under the Maha Nikaya sect located in Lam Sai Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani Province. The temple has long been a spiritual center for the surrounding community and continues to play an important role in religious practices, education, and local traditions. It is currently overseen by Phra Athikan Yutthana Thitithammo, the abbot of the temple.

Later, Nai Nop Naksamrit contributed an additional 4 rai of land, expanding the temple grounds. The original name “Wat Lam Sai” was inspired by the banyan trees growing along a pond near the temple. The name was later changed to Wat Mongkhonrat.

 

Wat Mongkhonrat received its royal ordination boundary (Visungkhamsima) on October 30, 1936, with dimensions of 40 meters in width and 60 meters in length. The boundary was formally consecrated in 1939. The temple has also supported education by allowing government authorities to establish a school on its land, reflecting its close relationship with the local community.

These include the Buddha image “Phra Phuttha Kaew Nimit Mongkhon,” prominently enshrined at the front of the temple, the popular Ai Khai statue that attracts devotees seeking luck and success, and the shrine of Phor Pu Lam Sai, which is believed to offer protection and blessings to visitors.

 

The temple complex consists of several important structures, including the old ordination hall built in 1939, which is no longer used for formal ceremonies, and a newer ordination hall used during important religious events. Other buildings include monks’ residences, a sermon hall, a multipurpose pavilion, a bell tower, and a prayer hall, all of which support both religious activities and community events.
