Wat Mai Pinklao, formerly known as Wat Mai Musikaram, is an ancient temple located in Village No. 3, Nakhon Pathom Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Pathom District, Nakhon Pathom Province. This temple is considered one of the important religious sites within the local community, with a long-standing history and a continuing role as a spiritual center for the people in the area.

 

The temple was established around 1857 (B.E. 2400) by Chaophraya Thipakorawong Mahakosathibodi (Kham Bunnag), a prominent noble figure during the early Rattanakosin period. The construction of the temple was intended as a memorial dedicated to Than Phuying Nu, his wife, giving the temple deep significance both religiously and personally.

 

The original name of the temple, “Wat Mai Musikaram,” derives from the word “Musika,” which is associated with the name of Than Phuying Nu. Therefore, the name can be interpreted as “the temple dedicated to Lady Nu.” However, over time, local residents began referring to the temple based on the name of the village as “Wat Mai Pinklao,” which has become the commonly used name today.

 

This change in name reflects the close relationship between the temple and the surrounding community. The temple serves not only as a place for religious ceremonies but also as an integral part of local life and identity.

 

Within the temple grounds stands an ancient ordination hall that has been recognized for its long history. It functions as the central space for Buddhist activities, including merit-making ceremonies, ordinations, and other important religious rituals. The hall also provides a place for visitors and devotees to engage in prayer and meditation.

 

One of the most notable highlights of Wat Mai Pinklao is “Pu Chuchok,” a sacred figure that is highly revered by the public. Chuchok is a character from Buddhist Jataka tales, and in Thai belief, he is often associated with fortune, wealth, and success in life.

 

At this temple, Pu Chuchok is widely worshipped, with Luang Por Sompong Thirathammo playing an important role in maintaining and passing on this spiritual tradition. Many visitors travel here to seek blessings related to financial prosperity, business success, and overall well-being.

 

The atmosphere within the temple is peaceful, simple, and shaded, making it suitable for those seeking a place for quiet reflection or meditation. The temple continues to preserve its identity as a community temple, free from overcrowding, and remains open for visitors to make merit comfortably.

 

Travel to Wat Mai Pinklao is convenient, especially by private car. Starting from Pinklao–Nakhon Chai Si Road, travel approximately 20 kilometers, then continue onto Phetkasem Road for about 19 kilometers. After that, turn onto Malai Man Road and continue for approximately 2 kilometers. The temple is located on the left-hand side, directly opposite Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University.

 

Today, Wat Mai Pinklao continues to play an important role in religion, culture, and local beliefs, particularly among those who have faith in fortune and prosperity. This makes the temple one of the notable destinations in Nakhon Pathom Province.
