Wiang Kalong Ancient City is one of the most important archaeological sites in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Located in Pa San Village, Wiang Kalong Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, this ancient settlement sits on a raised mound and preserves remnants of old city walls, moats, and kiln sites that once supported a thriving community.

The site is widely recognized for its distinctive ceramic production, particularly the “Wiang Kalong kilns.” These kilns produced lightweight, thin-bodied ceramics with unique glaze colors such as pale green, light blue, and soft yellow. The craftsmanship reflects advanced techniques and a deep understanding of local materials by ancient artisans.

Archaeological evidence suggests that the production area covers more than 15 square kilometers, with fragments of pottery scattered throughout the region. This indicates large-scale manufacturing and highlights the site's role as an important production center in the past.

Getting There Travelers can take the Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai highway, then turn onto Highway 1035 toward Wang Nuea. After about 3 kilometers, a local road leads to Pa San Village and the ancient site.
