Wat Ko Phai was established as a temple around 1755, during the late Ayutthaya period, and later received royal permission for consecrated boundary stones (wisungkhamsima) in 1764. Receiving this status relatively soon after its establishment reflects the temple’s importance and stability within the local community, and allows it to conduct ordinations and formal monastic ceremonies in accordance with Buddhist tradition.

 

The most important religious structure at Wat Ko Phai is the ubosot, which houses the principal Buddha image and serves as the center for Buddhist rituals. Today, Wat Ko Phai continues to function as a community temple. Religious activities are held on important Buddhist days such as Makha Bucha Day, Visakha Bucha Day, the beginning of Buddhist Lent, and the end of Buddhist Lent, along with merit-making events following local riverside traditions. These activities help maintain close relationships between the temple, schools, and villagers.

 

For visitors, Wat Ko Phai is well suited to religious and cultural tourism in a peaceful, unhurried setting. Walking around the ubosot, paying respect to the principal Buddha image, and viewing the chedi by the riverside allow visitors to experience the rhythm of life in Bang Ban, where faith and water remain deeply interconnected.
