Wat Sang-ngam, Prachinburi: Faith and the Sacred Ritual of Passing Under the Ubosot. Wat Sang-ngam is located in Bang Boribun Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachinburi Province. Travelers can reach the temple by following Highway No. 3069 until kilometer marker 7, then turning about one kilometer inside. The temple covers an area of about 36 rai 3 ngan 78 square wah, and its current abbot is Phra Kru Siripattanasopon (Serem Thitthammo).

Although Wat Sang-ngam is sometimes mistakenly mentioned as being in Chanthaburi, reliable sources confirm that it is situated in Prachinburi Province.

The temple was established in 1913 (B.E. 2456) and was first granted Wisungkamsima on April 10, 1917 (B.E. 2460), with a subsequent grant on February 11, 1974 (B.E. 2517). The sacred boundary measures 40 meters wide and 80 meters long.

The current ubosot (ordination hall) was built on March 12, 1971 (B.E. 2514). Later, on February 15, 2002 (B.E. 2545), the ubosot was renovated and elevated by about 1.59 meters. The main reason was that the temple grounds were prone to flooding from July to October each year, sometimes reaching one meter in depth, which made it difficult for monks to perform religious ceremonies.

After the elevation, devotees began the practice of “passing under the ubosot”, believing it would bring blessings, health recovery, and good fortune. This ritual soon became widely known as visitors shared their experiences. Inside the ubosot, there is also a statue of Luang Pu Phiw (Phra Khru Silavisuddhacharn) for worship.

Luang Pu Phiw was a revered former abbot of the temple. He was known for his traditional healing knowledge, treating fractures and injuries, and even caring for injured animals such as elephants, horses, cattle, and buffaloes. He passed away in 1985 (B.E. 2528) at the age of 93 (72 years in monkhood). Today, many visitors continue to place gold leaf on his image and pray for blessings.

The temple also houses a museum established in 2010 (B.E. 2553), displaying ancient artifacts such as Buddha images, porcelain, brassware, talapat fans, and items related to Luang Pu Phiw. The museum is generally open from 08:00 to 17:00, and there is no entrance fee.

Travel From Prachinburi town, visitors can take Highway No. 3069 to kilometer marker 7 and then turn inside for about one kilometer to reach the temple. The route is convenient for both private cars and public transport. Parking spaces are available within the temple grounds.
