Khao Phra Tamnak, also known as Khao Phra Bat, is a small hill located between South Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach in Chonburi Province. It is one of the must-visit landmarks for tourists coming to Pattaya. Thanks to its elevated position, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the sea and the entire city, especially during sunset when the sky transforms into a stunning array of colors. This hill is home to several significant sites, blending religion, history, and tourism all in one place.
At the top of Khao Phra Tamnak sits Wat Khao Phra Bat, an ancient temple that houses a replica of the Buddha’s footprint. Visitors come to pay their respects, believing it brings blessings and good fortune. The temple area is also home to the famous Khao Phra Tamnak Viewpoint, open to visitors daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. From here, you can feel the cool sea breeze while taking in breathtaking views of Pattaya Bay’s sweeping curve. The sight of towering hotels, speedboats, and ferries crossing the blue sea beneath a vast sky creates a picture-perfect scene that leaves a lasting impression.
Another highlight at the summit is the monument of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon, known affectionately as “Sadet Tia.” Revered as the Father of the Royal Thai Navy, he is deeply respected by locals and seafarers alike. Many come to pay homage, especially those working in maritime industries, fishing, and trade, as it is believed to bring safety and prosperity. The area surrounding the monument is peaceful and offers clear, sweeping views of the city.
For photography enthusiasts, this viewpoint is a must-visit destination. Its perfect height allows for wide, unobstructed shots of both the city and the ocean. In the morning, visitors can witness the sunrise illuminating the sea, while in the evening, the sunset paints the sky in shades of orange, red, and purple, creating a romantic yet tranquil atmosphere. It’s a beautiful spot for couples, families, or solo travelers looking to capture unforgettable memories.
At the base of the hill, there’s a public park ideal for relaxation and exercise. Shaded by large trees and cooled by the ocean breeze, it’s a favorite spot for both locals and tourists to unwind. This area also houses the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office, where visitors can stop by to gather travel information, brochures, and recommendations for other attractions around Pattaya and Chonburi Province.
Getting to Khao Phra Tamnak is quite easy. Visitors can drive up in their own vehicles or rent a motorbike, as the road is safe and clearly marked. Traveling from South Pattaya Beach takes no more than 10 minutes. Songthaews (shared taxis) and regular taxis are also readily available for those without private transportation.
Khao Phra Tamnak is more than just a sightseeing spot. It’s a place where visitors can experience stunning natural views while connecting with the local history and spiritual beliefs of the area. Whether you love nature, culture, or photography, this hill offers something special for everyone. With opening hours from early morning to late evening, you can choose to start your day by watching the sunrise or end it by enjoying a mesmerizing sunset over the vibrant city of Pattaya.
