Luang Pho Hom intended to build a large chedi to enshrine the Buddha’s relics and to create a center of faith for Buddhist devotees.

 

In 1992, Luang Pho Hom initiated the plan to build this great chedi, setting its dimensions at about 40 meters wide and 58 meters high so that it could properly house the sacred relics and Buddha images in various postures within the structure. The construction of such a large chedi required not only strong faith but also the cooperation of many Buddhist devotees.

 

Later, around 1995, Luang Pho Hom learned of the illness of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, King Rama IX. Out of loyalty and deep concern for His Majesty, Luang Pho Hom made a solemn vow to complete the construction of this chedi as a royal merit-making offering dedicated to the King.

 

This vow gave the construction of Phra That Chedi Sri Pho Thong even greater meaning, because it was not only the building of a Buddhist religious monument, but also an expression of loyalty to the beloved monarch of the Thai people.

 

Inside the chedi are enshrined sacred Buddha relics, which are regarded as the highest sacred objects in Buddhism. Paying respect to these relics is considered a great act of merit, and many Buddhists wish to come and worship them at least once in their lifetime.
