This early exposure sparked his interest in woodworking, and he later began studying the craft seriously. Over time, he accumulated more than 26 years of experience in the profession.

 

The inspiration behind creating miniature Thai houses came from his admiration for traditional Thai architecture. Tu carefully studied the structure of central Thai houses, including layout planning, architectural components, and construction details. He then applied this knowledge to scale down the designs into miniature house models while preserving the authentic identity of traditional Thai homes.

 

Traditional Thai houses possess distinctive architectural characteristics. The structures are typically elevated on stilts to prevent flooding and improve ventilation. The steep gabled roofs help protect the house from rain and heat, while the veranda and terrace areas provide space for family activities and daily life.

 

One of the most remarkable techniques used by Tu is the traditional construction method that avoids nails. Instead, he uses classic wood joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints and wooden wedges. These traditional methods were widely used in ancient Thai houses, providing strong structural integrity and allowing the structure to be assembled and dismantled when necessary.

 

Tu strongly believes that “the strength of Thai houses is that they never truly disappear.” Traditional Thai houses are designed to suit Thailand’s climate and way of life. Wooden structures can be easily repaired and maintained, allowing them to last for generations.

 

The main material used in these miniature houses is golden teak wood. Teak is known for its strength, durability, resistance to weather conditions, and beautiful natural grain. Because of these qualities, teak has long been used as an essential building material for Thai houses.
