In 1975, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen traveled to this area to provide assistance to residents affected by flooding. This royal visit brought great joy to the villagers, who decided to rename the village from Ban Wat Tan to Ban Bang Sadet in remembrance of the royal benevolence shown to the community.

 

In 1976, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother initiated the Royal Doll Project in Ban Bang Sadet. The project was established to create additional occupations for villagers in the community. Its objective was to increase household income while preserving traditional Thai handicrafts for future generations.

 

The villagers of Ban Bang Sadet therefore formed a cooperative-style community group, with the Royal Doll Center serving as the main location for producing, demonstrating, and selling royal court dolls to visitors who travel to the area.

 

Royal court dolls are handcrafted using clay. Skilled artisans shape the clay into figures of people, animals, or scenes that represent everyday life in traditional Thai society. The pieces are then dried and carefully painted, giving each doll its own distinctive appearance. Every piece reflects the delicate craftsmanship and artistic traditions of Thailand.

 

The designs of the dolls are highly diverse. Many depict scenes from traditional Thai life, such as children’s games, classical Thai musical ensembles, traditional cooking activities, and displays of Thai fruits.
