Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot Shrine is a sacred site located within the grounds of Wat Trisatakut, which local residents commonly call “Wat Sam Roi Yot.” The shrine is situated in Rai Kao Subdistrict, Sam Roi Yot District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It houses a statue representing Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot, a revered spiritual figure who has long been respected by the local community. Many visitors travel here to pay their respects and pray for prosperity, success in their careers, and good fortune in life. As a result, the shrine has become one of the most important sacred places in Sam Roi Yot District.

 

Wat Trisatakut, the temple where the shrine is located, has a history closely connected with the local community. Originally, the temple was situated about 5 sen (an old Thai measurement of distance) west of its current location. However, the original land was not suitable for constructing a temple. The villagers of Sam Roi Yot therefore worked together to find a more appropriate location, with Mr. Pan Yukong leading the effort to secure land for the new temple.

 

Later, Mr. Phong Chanchuklin and Mrs. Phrai Chanchuklin donated land to be used for the construction of the temple. The temple buildings were then relocated to the current site in Rai Kao Subdistrict, an area with terrain more suitable for development and capable of supporting the growth of the surrounding community.

 

The construction of Wat Trisatakut began around 1937. At that time, the surrounding area was still remote and rather arid, which made construction challenging. The builders faced various difficulties, including limited access to the area and a shortage of building resources. Nevertheless, through the determination of the local villagers and the faith of the community, the temple was successfully established within a relatively short period.

 

In 1939, the first monk’s residence (kuti) was built in a traditional Thai architectural style, marking an important step in the development of the temple. In 1940, official permission was granted to construct the temple, and in 1941, the Ministry of Education formally announced the establishment of Wat Trisatakut. From that point onward, the temple became an important religious and cultural center for the community of Sam Roi Yot.

 

Today, Wat Trisatakut covers an area of approximately 62 rai. Within the temple grounds are several important buildings, including the ordination hall (ubosot), a sermon hall, monks’ residences, and a local museum that displays historical artifacts from the surrounding community. The temple has also established a community learning center, allowing residents of Rai Kao Subdistrict to study local history, culture, and traditional knowledge.

 

The temple grounds also include a herbal garden and conservation areas for rare plant species. These natural learning spaces allow visitors and students to explore knowledge about traditional herbs and local plants while also providing shade and greenery throughout the temple grounds. As a result, Wat Trisatakut has become a place that combines religious, cultural, and environmental significance.

 

The Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot Shrine within the temple is highly revered by the local community. Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot is believed to be a guardian spirit representing goodness, honesty, and justice. Visitors often come to pray for success in life, guidance in honest work, and blessings for their families.

 

The statue of Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot is depicted as an elderly Chinese man with a long beard. He is seated calmly, with his right hand resting on his right knee and his left hand placed on his left knee. The statue displays three raised fingers, a symbol believed to represent sacred power. This figure symbolizes wisdom, compassion, and spiritual authority that many people believe Phor Pu possesses.

 

According to local beliefs, Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot sometimes communicates through spiritual possession in the body of Mrs. Thongkham Kongphet. During these moments, villagers seek guidance and blessings. People facing difficulties in life often come to ask for advice and spiritual support so they can find the right path forward.

 

One of the most important events associated with the shrine is the Annual Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot Worship Festival, which takes place every year in mid-March. This festival is a major cultural event for the Sam Roi Yot community. People from many regions travel here to participate in ceremonies and offer prayers to Phor Pu in hopes of receiving blessings and good fortune.

 

During the festival, rituals such as sacred offerings, ceremonial worship, and various cultural activities are organized. The event reflects the spiritual traditions and beliefs of the local community. It is not only a religious ceremony but also an opportunity for the community to gather together and preserve their cultural heritage.

 

In addition to worshipping sacred figures, visitors to Wat Trisatakut can enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the temple. The environment is calm and shaded, making it an ideal place for meditation and relaxation. Visitors can also learn about the history and culture of Sam Roi Yot through the temple’s museum and community learning center.

 

Getting There Visitors can travel to the Phor Pu Sam Roi Yot Shrine by using Phet Kasem Road from Hua Hin or Pranburi toward Sam Roi Yot District. Once reaching Rai Kao Subdistrict, signs will guide visitors to Wat Trisatakut. Travelers can drive into the temple grounds and conveniently walk to the shrine to pay their respects.
