Wat Chonprathan Rangsarit is a third-class royal temple located in Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. Founded in 1959 by the Royal Irrigation Department, the temple was built to replace two former temples affected by infrastructure development. The historical roots of the area are still preserved through the nearby “Cheng Tha–Na Bot Buddhist Site,” reflecting continuity between past and present.

 

Luang Por Panyananda Bhikkhu, the first abbot, was a highly respected monk known for his progressive approach to teaching Buddhism. His lectures emphasized reasoning, real-life examples, and clear communication. His well-known book, “Life and Death: What Do You Gain from Attending a Funeral?”, reflects his deep insights into life’s impermanence.

 

A distinctive feature of the temple is its simplified funeral practice. Unlike traditional ceremonies, funerals here are conducted without entertainment, lavish meals, or wreaths. Instead, the focus is on listening to Dharma and reflecting on life and death, aligning closely with core Buddhist teachings.

 

The temple offers regular activities every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM, including chanting, Dharma talks, and merit-making. These sessions are held at the stone courtyard and are open to the public, making the temple an active spiritual hub.

 

Getting There Wat Chonprathan Rangsarit is easily accessible via Tiwanon Road at kilometer 14 in Pak Kret District. Visitors can travel by private car, public bus, or the Pink Line MRT, followed by a short local transfer. Its proximity to Bangkok makes it convenient for day trips.
