Three Pagodas Pass, Kanchanaburi Province, marks the westernmost border point of Thailand. It is located in Nong Lu Subdistrict, Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province. This area is significant in terms of geography, history, and tourism, particularly for its role as a gateway connecting Thailand and Myanmar, a function that remains active today.

Three Pagodas Pass can be reached via Highway No. 323. Approximately 4 kilometers before reaching the town of Sangkhla Buri, there is a right-hand junction leading to the pass. From this junction, the distance to Three Pagodas Pass is about 18 kilometers. The road is fully paved and suitable for both private vehicles and public transport.

Historically, the Three Pagodas were originally known as “Hin Sam Kong” (Three Stone Piles) and served as a place of worship for Thai travelers before leaving Thai territory and entering Burmese land. In 1929 (2472 BE), Phra Si Suwan Khiri, the then governor of Sangkhla Buri, led local villagers in constructing three small pagodas, which have since become the symbolic landmark of this border area.

Beyond its religious and spiritual significance, Three Pagodas Pass was an important military route used by Thai and Burmese forces in the past. This passage served as a key corridor for troop movements and logistical transport over many periods, highlighting the strategic importance of the Sangkhla Buri area in the western region of Thailand.

Today, the area around Three Pagodas Pass features shops selling goods from Myanmar. Tourists can cross the border to visit Payathonzu Market on the Myanmar side by paying the designated border crossing fee. In certain cases and under specific conditions, visitors are also allowed to bring vehicles across the border.

Getting There From Kanchanaburi town, follow Highway No. 323 toward Sangkhla Buri. About 4 kilometers before reaching the district center, turn right at the junction leading to Three Pagodas Pass and continue for approximately 18 kilometers. The entire route is a paved road.
