The Thai Traditional House Model Group (Golden Teak Wood) is dedicated to preserving traditional Thai houses. Established by Chao Tu-Sompong Tanpanit, the group is located at 1/27 Moo 6, Ban Sakae, Tambon Bang Sadej, Pa Mok District, Ang Thong Province. It is a place rich in the craftsmanship of Thai artisans and the history of timber materials.

Chao Tu grew up in Ang Thong, surrounded by various forms of traditional Thai houses, and the region is also home to many sawmills, reflecting the deep connection between the local people and woodworking. Chao Tu began his craft at a young age and has accumulated 26 years of experience. His passion for traditional Thai art and wisdom led him to create detailed plans for Thai-style houses, adjusting their sizes to suit customer needs.

One of Chao Tu’s specialties is building Thai houses without nails, opting instead for traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon and wedge joints. This traditional method ensures that the houses are both strong and durable. Chao Tu believes, “The strength of a traditional Thai house is that it will never die,” reflecting the stability and long-lasting nature of the Thai architectural style.

Chao Tu’s works have been sent across Thailand and to countries like Laos and Singapore. Some of his creations are displayed in significant museums, such as the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, where visitors can learn about the construction of traditional Thai houses.

In addition to traditional Thai houses, Chao Tu also builds other types of structures, including traditional Thai-style pavilions, Thai-style raised houses, and even modern-style homes upon customer request. His craftsmanship is highly sought after, especially for "spirit houses" and "ancestors’ shrines," which are popular both domestically and internationally.

Chao Tu welcomes visitors who are interested in seeing his work and learning about the process of constructing Thai-style model houses. If you're interested in learning how to build traditional Thai houses, you can contact Chao Tu in advance to arrange a visit and study the techniques firsthand.

The Thai Traditional House Model Group (Golden Teak Wood) by Chao Tu-Sompong Tanpanit is a vital preservation of Thai craftsmanship, showcasing not only beautiful works but also the importance of traditional Thai houses in architecture and culture. Participating in the study of these methods helps promote and preserve Thai art for future generations.
