Bang Berd Beach is a beautiful and peaceful beach located in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It is situated in Ban Bang Berd, Sai Thong Subdistrict, Bang Saphan Noi District, along the Gulf of Thailand coastline. The beach forms a graceful curved bay, with rocky hills enclosing both ends of the shoreline, creating a calm and secluded atmosphere. The sand here has a distinctive reddish-brown color, which makes the beach unique compared with many other beaches in Thailand. Walking along the shoreline, visitors can enjoy wide views of the Gulf of Thailand with the sea stretching out toward the horizon, framed by natural mountains and rock formations, creating a scenic environment ideal for relaxation.

The geographical features of Bang Berd Beach form a wide crescent-shaped bay. Rocky hills and natural cliffs are located at both ends of the bay, helping protect the beach from strong waves coming from the open sea. As a result, the beach area remains relatively calm, with gentle waves. The sand along the beach has a reddish-brown tone, which differs from the white or golden sand typically found at other beaches. This coloration comes from the mineral composition of the surrounding soil and rocks, giving Bang Berd Beach its distinctive appearance.

 

One of the most notable highlights of Bang Berd Beach is the “Red Cliff”, locally known as “Pha Daeng.” This natural rock formation features deep red-colored cliffs located near the end of the beach close to the Bang Berd community. The reddish color of the rocks is caused by iron minerals within the rock layers. When sunlight hits the cliff surface, the red color becomes especially vivid, creating a dramatic natural scene. Visitors can walk along the beach to admire the Red Cliff and capture beautiful photographs of the coastline.

 

The area around Ban Bang Berd also holds an important place in Thailand’s agricultural history. During the period of World War II, this region became famous for cultivating “Bang Berd Watermelon,” a well-known variety in Thailand’s agricultural past. These watermelons were notable for their large size, bright red flesh, and crisp sweet taste, making them highly popular during that time.

 

The Bang Berd watermelon was developed and cultivated on farmland owned by Mom Chao Sitthiporn Kritdakorn, an important figure in Thai agricultural development. He experimented with modern agricultural practices in the Bang Berd area and became known for his progressive agricultural ideas. His philosophy is reflected in the famous quote, “Money is an illusion, but rice and fish are real,” which emphasizes the importance of agriculture and food security in human life.

 

Because of the historical success of Bang Berd watermelon cultivation, the area of Ban Bang Berd became an important agricultural site in Thailand during the past. Even though the cultivation of this particular watermelon variety has declined over time, the name “Bang Berd Watermelon” remains well known in Thailand’s agricultural history and continues to be remembered by local communities.

 

The atmosphere of Bang Berd Beach today still reflects the lifestyle of a coastal fishing community. Visitors may observe local fishermen preparing their boats, repairing fishing equipment, and bringing freshly caught seafood ashore. Small community markets and local seafood sales reflect the traditional way of life closely connected to the sea.

Visitors can easily plan a trip that includes several destinations within the same travel route.

 

Getting There To reach Bang Berd Beach by car, take Highway No. 4 (Phetkasem Road). When you reach kilometer marker 425 near the Huai Sak intersection, turn left onto Highway No. 3497 and continue for approximately 16 kilometers until reaching Bang Berd Beach.

 

For travel by bus, visitors can take a Bangkok – Bang Saphan Noi bus and get off at the Huai Sak intersection. From there, a motorcycle taxi can take visitors to Bang Berd Beach. Travelers arriving by train can get off at either Huai Sak Railway Station or Bang Saphan Noi Railway Station and continue the journey to the beach by local transportation.
