Firefly Boat Tour at Moo 1, Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi Province, is a newly developed natural attraction managed by the local community. Visitors take a boat ride of approximately 2 kilometers in the evening to witness hundreds of fireflies glowing along the riverside. This eco-tourism activity offers a peaceful and immersive experience close to nature.
Firefly Boat Tour, Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict has recently been promoted as a community-based natural attraction in Moo 1, Nong Pla Lai, Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi Province. The area is located along a natural canal that remains ecologically rich, lined with mangrove apple trees (Lamphu) and native vegetation, which provide ideal habitats for fireflies.
Fireflies require clean water and a balanced ecosystem to thrive. The presence of a large firefly population here reflects the relatively healthy environmental conditions of the area. Tourism activities are therefore managed under conservation principles, including limiting the number of boats per round and discouraging flash photography to minimize disturbance to the insects’ life cycle.
The experience begins at dusk. Visitors gather at the community pier, wear life jackets, and receive safety instructions before boarding the boat. The boat then slowly cruises along the canal for about 2 kilometers. Upon reaching areas dense with Lamphu trees, countless fireflies begin to flicker in synchrony, creating a magical atmosphere resembling stars floating above the water’s surface.
Historically, the area was discovered by local residents who noticed shimmering lights during the rainy season evenings. Further observation confirmed a large firefly population. With support from the Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, the boat tour system was organized to ensure safety and sustainability. Today, it has become a new eco-tourism highlight of Khao Yoi District.
Getting There From Phetchaburi town, take Highway No. 4 (Phetkasem Road) toward Khao Yoi District. Then turn onto local roads following signs to Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Moo 1. Parking is available near the community pier. Advance contact is recommended at Tel. 081-0130330 or 086-1767216.
