Wat Chaman is located at No. 13, Ban Chaman, Village No. 2, Chaman Subdistrict, Makham District, Chanthaburi Province. It is a public temple under the Mahanikaya sect. The temple grounds cover a total of 11 rai, 1 ngan, and 28 square wah, documented under land title deed No. 11988. In addition, there are 6 parcels of monastic land covering an area of 227 rai, 2 ngan, and 303 square wah, registered under land title deed numbers 11989, 11990, 11991, 11992, and Sor.Kor.Dor. No. 930. This extensive land area has long served religious purposes and activities connected to the local community.

 

The main structures within Wat Chaman include the ordination hall, measuring 24.50 meters in width and 32 meters in length, built in 1990, which serves as the site for important Buddhist rituals. Another significant structure is the sermon hall, measuring 30 meters by 50 meters, constructed in 1970 as a wooden building that reflects the traditional architectural style of rural temples. The principal Buddha image enshrined in the ordination hall is a revered sacred object for both local villagers and visiting Buddhists.

 

Wat Chaman was originally established in 1899, making it a historic temple that has stood alongside the community for over a century. It was later granted the royal boundary (Wisungkhamsima) on January 17, 1991, with a boundary area measuring 24.50 meters in width and 32 meters in length, giving it the full status to conduct monastic ceremonies in accordance with Buddhist monastic law.

 

Throughout its history, the temple has been under the stewardship of several abbots, beginning with Phra Plueang, followed by Phra Run, Phra Daeng, Phra Tom, Phra Dong, Phra Kham, Phra Khru Samuh Suttharat, and currently Phra Khong Panyavuro, who has served as abbot since 1986. Under their leadership, Wat Chaman has continued to develop and remains a spiritual and cultural center for the people of Chaman Subdistrict.

 

With its rich history, valuable architecture, and role as a religious and cultural focal point, Wat Chaman stands as one of the significant temples in Makham District, Chanthaburi Province. It reflects the enduring faith of the community in Buddhism, which has been preserved and passed down through generations to the present day.
