Chanthaburi attractions

Attractions in Thailand

Operating day: Wednesday - Sunday
Operating time: 09.00 - 16.00

The National Maritime Commerce Museum is located within Noen Wong Camp, Bang Kacha Subdistrict, Chanthaburi Province. The museum building is a two-story twin structure, featuring exhibitions about Thailand’s maritime trade. It houses historical evidence collected from over 20 years of underwater archaeological research, providing visitors with a comprehensive view of Thai maritime commerce in the past. The main exhibition hall is on the second floor.

One of the museum’s highlights is a full-scale replica of a Chinese-style merchant ship that visitors can walk inside. This exhibit not only replicates the ship but also tells the story of maritime navigation and international trade, showcasing Thailand’s historical commercial relations and cultural exchanges with other countries.

In addition to maritime trade displays, the museum features the “Best of Chanthaburi” exhibition, presenting the province’s unique highlights. Exhibits include gemstone mining, fruit orchards as natural tourist attractions, and the stories of the Chong people, the indigenous inhabitants of Chanthaburi. These displays help visitors understand the province’s economy, culture, and local lifestyle in depth.

The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is closed on public holidays. Admission fees are 10 THB for Thai adults and 30 THB for foreign visitors. Group visits can be arranged by contacting the museum at +66 39 391 431 or fax +66 39 391 432.

To reach the museum from Mueang Chanthaburi District, take Highway 3146 through Ban Tha Chalep and Eastern Hotel for approximately 6 kilometers. Then take the turn toward Tha Mai District and continue for about 400 meters to reach Noen Wong Camp, where the museum is located. Visiting the museum offers not only historical and cultural knowledge but also a chance to experience the local way of life and traditions of Chanthaburi.

The National Maritime Commerce Museum serves as a comprehensive cultural and educational destination, combining full-scale ship exhibits, presentations of Chanthaburi’s local products, and stories of the Chong people. It provides an immersive learning experience for students, researchers, tourists, and international visitors interested in Thailand’s maritime history and cultural heritage.
