Doi Thulay, located in Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts. This mountain is renowned for its stunning scenery throughout the year, especially in the winter months, when visitors can enjoy the morning sea of mist, golden grass fields, and beautiful wild orchids.
The journey to Doi Thulay begins from Tha Song Yang District via Highway 105 heading toward Mae Sariang District, covering approximately 58 kilometers to Tha Song Yang Subdistrict. Here, travelers are advised to prepare their trekking equipment and check their physical condition at the Tha Song Yang Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) to ensure safety and readiness before setting off.
From the SAO, visitors continue to Ban Mae Jwang, about 6 kilometers away, and then begin a 7.5-kilometer trek on foot to reach Doi Thulay, which typically takes around 6 hours. The trail is filled with pristine natural surroundings, including forests, streams, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Along the way, trekkers can spot various species of wild orchids and seasonal grasslands.
Upon reaching the summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of the morning mist, particularly between November and February, the Northern Thailand winter season. The golden grass fields reflect the morning sunlight, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Doi Thulay is also an excellent spot for sunrise and sunset photography, making it ideal for photographers and those seeking tranquility in nature.
Beyond its natural beauty, Doi Thulay holds cultural significance and reflects the traditional lifestyle of the local community. Villagers maintain their heritage through practices such as rotational farming, cultivating local crops, and harvesting forest herbs. Visitors can gain insight into these customs, adding a cultural dimension to their trekking experience.
For a visit to Doi Thulay, it is recommended that travelers prepare trekking gear, warm clothing, sturdy hiking shoes, and photography equipment. Adequate food and water should also be carried, as there may be no shops or service points along the trail. Proper planning and preparation ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
Doi Thulay in Tak Province is a destination that adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts should not miss. With its sea of mist, golden grass fields, wild orchids, and a chance to experience the local way of life, a trek to Doi Thulay promises a memorable adventure full of the charm of Northern Thailand.
