The Natural History Park, initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (Attractions in Ratchaburi), Suan Phueng District, Ratchaburi is located in the Tenasserim Range, bordered to the north by Kanchanaburi Province and to the south by the Pa Fang Sai Mae Nam Phachi National Forest Reserve.

 

It encompasses about 52,546 acres of land, covering four villages and twelve communities in Suan Phueng Subdistrict and Tanao Si Subdistrict.

 

Initiated by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1995, it was aimed at preserving and restoring forest, surveying social, physical and biological conditions, serving as a learning centre for disseminating knowledge to children, youth, as well as other people in order that they can use it in their daily lives.

 

Also, its operational framework includes the division of the Natural History Park’s area, natural resource preservation and nature restoration, academic works and research, academic technology transfer service, and administration and coordination.

 

The Natural History Park is now open to the public, including children, youth, adults and people who are interested in the following activities:

 

1. Natural History Building: It is a place where general information and social, physical and biological information of the park are kept. There are books and videos that contain all this information and exhibits that present it.

 

The building also has a library where visitors can find information about environment. Moreover, there are exhibitions on the improvement of people’s quality of life in rural areas projects by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. 

 

2. Nature trails: They are trails for observing and learning about nature such as waterfalls, hot springs, flora and fauna, etc. The park possesses two nature trails. It takes an hour to complete the first trail whereas the other requires three hours.

 

3. Environment Camp: It is an activity for primary and lower secondary students. It is aimed to encourage them to realise the importance of natural resources and environment as well as to reinforce the behaviour of preserving the resources.

 

4. Accommodations: Their purpose is to facilitate academics and the participants of the Environmental Camp. Currently, the accommodations provided by the park include two three-bedroom houses, one six-bedroom house which can hold up to 30 guests, and 20 two-person tents.

 

5. Souvenir and product shop: It is where books and postcards of the Natural History Park are sold. In addition, it sells books written by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as well as products of the royal career support projects.
