Khlong Tron Reservoir in Uttaradit Province is one of the major irrigation projects vital to the development of agriculture and water management in northern Thailand. Located in Tron District, it was constructed by the Royal Irrigation Department between 1994 and 1997 to address water shortages during the dry season and to mitigate the severity of floods in the rainy season. This reservoir is an earthfill dam with a clay core, designed for long-term durability and stability. The crest of the dam is 9 meters wide, 220 meters long, and 48 meters high, with a catchment area of 265 square kilometers, enabling it to store a significant volume of water sufficient to meet the needs of surrounding farming communities.

In addition to its primary role in agriculture, the Khlong Tron Reservoir serves as a crucial water source for household consumption and helps maintain the balance of the local ecosystem. It is home to a variety of aquatic species and has become a peaceful nature-based tourism destination. The scenery around the reservoir is particularly beautiful in the early morning when a light mist floats above the water, and in the evening when the setting sun casts golden reflections on the surface. It is an ideal place for relaxation, cycling along the dam crest, or photography.

During the rainy season, the reservoir reaches full capacity, creating a lush and vibrant environment around it. In the dry season, the stored water is used for cultivating economic crops such as rice, vegetables, and fruits, allowing farmers to grow produce year-round without relying solely on rainfall. This effective water management reduces the risk of drought-related damage and enhances food security for the community.

With its economic, social, and environmental importance, the Khlong Tron Reservoir is not only a key irrigation structure in Uttaradit but also a worthwhile ecotourism destination. It is perfect for those who wish to experience rural life and the natural beauty of northern Thailand. Visitors to Uttaradit can include the reservoir in a travel itinerary along with nearby attractions such as Huai Phai Waterfall, ancient temples in Tron District, or local eateries offering renowned regional dishes, making the trip both educational and memorable.
