Phra That Pha Khai In Kwan in Tak Province is one of the most remarkable and impressive religious and natural attractions in the region. Perched on a high cliff, it was inspired by the famous Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Myanmar, sharing a similar appearance a golden stupa set atop a massive boulder at the cliff’s edge in a seemingly miraculous way. This stupa was built through the faith and dedication of Luang Ta Wut Plee Piyatharo, the abbot of Wat Phra Phutthabat Khao Nam, who aimed to create a destination for both pilgrims and those seeking a challenge in climbing to the top of the steep cliff.

Constructed as a symbol of faith and spiritual inspiration, Phra That Pha Khai In Kwan reflects the intention of Luang Ta Wut Plee Piyatharo to provide Buddhists with a sacred place for worship in the midst of serene nature. It also serves as a way for Thais to admire a structure reminiscent of Myanmar’s Kyaiktiyo Pagoda without traveling abroad.

Reaching the stupa is no easy feat, as visitors must climb a mountain slope with an inclination of about 50 degrees. Some sections of the trail are narrow and steep, requiring both physical strength and mental determination. Those who plan to make the ascent should prepare themselves physically, wear suitable sneakers or hiking shoes, carry enough drinking water, and bring climbing aids if necessary. The journey starts from Tak city, driving to Wat Phra Phutthabat Khao Nam, then continuing on foot along the designated path.

At the summit, visitors are greeted by the golden stupa standing majestically on the cliffside boulder, surrounded by a panorama of layered mountain ranges stretching into the horizon. The atmosphere is tranquil and sacred, ideal for meditation and chanting. From here, one can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views, especially at sunrise and sunset, when the sky changes colors in a mesmerizing display.

The best time to visit is during the cool or dry season, when the weather is pleasant and the trail is less slippery. It’s advisable to wear snug, climb-friendly clothing and travel with companions for safety. For photography enthusiasts, the early morning or late afternoon offers the most beautiful natural lighting.

Phra That Pha Khai In Kwan in Tak Province is more than just a tourist destination it stands as a symbol of faith, determination, and personal triumph. Those who make the journey will take home not only a sense of joy and peace but also unforgettable images of nature’s beauty.
