Wat Naeow Khiri is located at No. 61, Village No. 5, Tha Sao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Uttaradit Province. This historic temple has a legacy spanning over 60 years, having been founded in 1938 (B.E. 2481) through the devoted efforts of Phra Ajarn Son, a wandering monk from Lap Lae. His aspiration was to establish a spiritual sanctuary for the local people. He was joined by Village Headman Paeng Yodla and faithful residents who shared the same vision. Originally, the temple was located in Village No. 7 before being relocated to its present site in Village No. 5.

The surroundings of Wat Naeow Khiri are peaceful and lush with natural beauty. Although the temple is not large, it is filled with a profound sense of faith and serves as a vital spiritual center for the local community. Villagers frequently visit the temple to make merit, listen to Dhamma talks, chant prayers, and participate in religious events especially on Buddhist holy days such as Magha Puja, Visakha Puja, the beginning of Buddhist Lent, and the end of Lent. These events are celebrated with simple yet heartfelt traditional ceremonies.

The monks at Wat Naeow Khiri play a key role in guiding the community spiritually, focusing on Dhamma teachings, the observance of precepts, and the cultivation of mindfulness. The temple regularly holds Dhamma training activities for youth and the general public, particularly during festivals and annual merit-making events, strengthening the temple’s position as a hub for moral and ethical education.

Wat Naeow Khiri is a prime example of a rural Thai temple that has grown alongside its local community. It reflects the cultural identity, lifestyle, and beliefs of the villagers. Although it may not be a major or widely known tourist site, its spiritual value is immeasurable and continues to be passed down through generations.

Getting to Wat Naeow Khiri is convenient from downtown Uttaradit. Simply head toward Tha Sao Subdistrict and proceed into Village No. 5. Clear signage along the way makes the temple easy to find. For those seeking a serene space to practice meditation or explore the spiritual heritage of rural Thailand, Wat Naeow Khiri offers a peaceful atmosphere imbued with simplicity and deep communal faith.

More than just a local temple, Wat Naeow Khiri stands as a symbol of the enduring connection between Buddhism and the way of life in Uttaradit. It continues to honor the founding spirit of its creators and remains a treasured cultural landmark that quietly nourishes the soul of the Thai people to this day.
