Wat Phaisuwan is an ancient temple with a history of over 100 years, located in Ban Phaisuwan, Moo 9, Ban Rai Subdistrict, Bang Rakam District, Phitsanulok Province. The temple has long been the spiritual center of the community and is an important place in terms of religion, history, and art, worthy of preservation and study. With its long-standing history, the temple still maintains its traditional atmosphere, allowing visitors to experience peace and the deep faith passed down through generations.
At the temple stands Luang Pho Phet, a bronze Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture, with a lap width of 19 inches. This sacred image has long been enshrined at the temple and is regarded as both beautiful and highly significant in Buddhist art. Originally, the Buddha image had a crown made of gold, but it was stolen. Later, it was restored to preserve the image’s completeness. Today, Luang Pho Phet remains a revered figure, attracting worshippers and visitors who come to pay respect and seek blessings.
Another highlight of Wat Phaisuwan is its ordination hall, which was rediscovered and restored by Phra Athikan Rueang, who came from Sukhothai Province. He dedicated himself to restoring and decorating the hall, including carving the wooden doors and the gable of the building. These details reflect the exquisite craftsmanship and cultural artistry of the past, making the ordination hall a valuable piece of heritage for those interested in traditional architecture and art.
In terms of travel, Wat Phaisuwan is about 28 kilometers southeast of Phitsanulok city. Visitors can take the Phitsanulok – Wat Chulamani route in Bang Rakam District, then turn right for just 1 kilometer to reach the temple. The temple is situated on the east bank of the Nan River, surrounded by a peaceful and shaded atmosphere, making it an ideal place for merit-making, meditation, or simply relaxing the mind away from the bustle of the city.
Wat Phaisuwan is not only an ancient temple with a long history but also a place that reflects the deep faith and unity of the local community in preserving it for future generations. The beauty of Luang Pho Phet and the artistic details of the ordination hall are the main attractions for visitors.
