The King Rama I Monument Nai Muang, Muang Buri Ram, Buri Ram. The King Rama I Monument was built by Buriram local people in appreciation of His Majesty is kindness as he was Buriram city’s founder.
This monument also serves as the local spiritual center and a symbol of loyalty to the King Rama I and Chakri Dynasty. The bronze statue, which is two times bigger than the real King Rama I, is in warrior suit sitting on the war elephant. It is situated at the traffic circle where Buriram - Satuek road intersects Buriram Prakhon Chai, Amphoe Mueang Buriram.
According to the historical evidences, in 1776, King Rama I, as Chao Phraya Chakri at that time, moved the troops to conquer Phraya Nangrong, the rebel.
When he was on the way back, he found an abandoned city which was situated in a good location. He then decided to gather people and established a city known as "Mueang Pae" as there were many trees called "Pae" in this area.
Later, its name was changed to "Buri Ram" in King Rama V’s era. Therefore, Buri Ram people decided to build this monument in appreciation of His Majesty’s kindness in 1995.
