Science Technology Center and Environment in Uthai Thani is one of Thailand’s most important initiatives for science and technology education. Established in 1992 (B.E. 2535) to commemorate the 60th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, the center aims to provide the public, especially young people, with opportunities to explore and understand science and technology in daily life in an engaging and accessible manner.
In 1995 (B.E. 2538), the Thai government established the National Science Museum Organization (NSM) to manage the center efficiently, ensuring modern and high-quality educational services. The center’s building, popularly known as the “Cube Building,” features striking contemporary architecture designed to attract attention and create a new image for the institution, reflecting tangible advancements in science and technology.
The center comprises six floors, each dedicated to different aspects of science, technology, and the environment. The first floor introduces visitors to the center through detailed building models and informational displays, providing a clear understanding of its role and mission in promoting scientific knowledge.
The second floor presents the history of science and technology, exploring the origin and evolution of humanity and mankind’s impact on nature—both constructive and destructive—offering visitors a profound perspective on the human-environment relationship.
The third floor focuses on basic science and energy, offering hands-on experiments and interactive learning in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. These engaging displays are designed to encourage students and young visitors to explore scientific concepts in a fun and practical way.
The fourth floor highlights science and technology development in Thailand, showcasing research, innovation, and technological progress that contribute to national advancement and the improvement of daily life.
The fifth floor emphasizes science in everyday life, providing insights into human biology, health care, automation, robotics, transportation, and environmental awareness. Visitors can see firsthand how scientific knowledge improves quality of life and facilitates modern living.
The sixth floor presents Thai wisdom and traditional technologies, demonstrating the ingenuity of local communities through tools, household items, and products that have been developed and passed down for generations. This exhibition emphasizes the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge and integrating it with modern innovation.
In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the center hosts temporary exhibitions on various occasions, allowing visitors to explore new scientific topics and stay updated on technological advancements. The Science Technology Center and Environment is not only a compelling tourist destination but also an educational hub that inspires students, researchers, and the public to engage deeply with science, technology, and environmental understanding.
Covering topics from basic science to modern technology, the center serves as a vital learning resource at regional and national levels. It combines education, research, and interactive learning to inspire the next generation to confidently explore the world of science and innovation.
