Wat Thammakhosok, also locally known as Wat Rong Kho, is located on Sri Uthai Road in Uthai Mai Subdistrict, Uthai Thani Province, near the municipal market. This temple holds great historical and cultural significance. It was established in the early Rattanakosin period and was historically used as the site for civil officials of Uthai Thani to perform the Water-Pledge Ceremony (Nam Phra Phiphatsatya) as well as serving as a place for public executions, reflecting both religious and judicial practices of the past.

Inside the main ordination hall (ubosot), visitors can admire exquisite mural paintings, considered the most beautiful in Uthai Thani. Scholars believe these murals were likely created by artisans from the late Ayutthaya period who lived into the Rattanakosin era. The murals mainly depict stories from the life of the Buddha, including the descent from Trayastrimsa Heaven and his confrontation with Mara, showcasing the intricate skill and delicate artistry of that era. The upper side walls are adorned with celestial beings alternating with ceremonial fans, while the outer window frames feature beautifully crafted stucco decorations.

The viharn (assembly hall) is constructed on a higher platform than the ubosot, with the gable decorated with a three-headed elephant motif. Inside, approximately 20 Buddha images are neatly arranged on pedestals, creating a serene and sacred atmosphere. The outer window frames are decorated with stucco panels illustrating scenes from the Ramakien epic, and the viharn doors are carved from wood with floral motifs painted in vivid red, demonstrating the meticulous craftsmanship of traditional Thai artisans. Surrounding the ubosot and viharn are several prangs and chedis, adding to the overall sacred and aesthetic appeal of the temple complex.

Wat Thammakhosok not only serves as a religious site but also as an important center for learning about local art and history. Visitors can explore the valuable murals and ancient architecture while gaining insight into the traditions and beliefs of past generations. The temple also reflects historical practices, such as the Water-Pledge Ceremony and its past role as an execution ground, giving it multifaceted cultural and educational value.

Overall, Wat Thammakhosok exemplifies the harmonious integration of Thai traditional art and local history. Walking through the ubosot and viharn, observing the murals, and admiring the stucco decorations allow visitors to deeply appreciate the cultural and artistic heritage of the Uthai Thani community. The temple is an ideal destination not only for spiritual reflection but also for experiencing and photographing authentic Thai art and architecture, making it a treasured cultural landmark of the province.
